Thailand Nightlife
Thailand offers great weather, a wonderful culture, and superb beaches, but for many visitors the main attraction will be the nightlife. Alcoholic drinks are relatively cheap in this part of the world, and there are plenty of excellent bars and clubs from which to choose - especially in the big cities and tourist areas.
Nightlife in Bangkok
There are nightlife options all over Bangkok but tourists will tend to stick to the following areas: Sukhumvit Road, Patpong, Siam Square, and the Khao San Road. The nightlife in Patpong is a bit seedy and definitely of the adult variety - lots of strip joints and ladyboys. It is well worth going outside the main tourist areas for nightlife - especially for those looking for something a bit more sophisticated.
Nightlife in Chiang Mai
The nightlife in Chiang Mai is not as full-on as Bangkok, Phuket, or Pattaya, but there are definitely some good options. Some of the best nightlife is located on Thanon Charoenrat and Thanon Loi Kroh. There are also a few nice bars around the night market. The most popular club in Chiang Mai is Spicy, and this very lively place opens until late.
Nightlife in Pattaya
Pattaya was once a sleepy fishing village but all that changed with the arrival of the Americans during the Vietnam War in the sixties. Soldiers would come here for a bit of rest and relaxation and a few bars began to open in the local area. Pattaya is now a city and the focus here is on entertaining tourists. There are literally thousands of bars to choose from, and this is main party town in Thailand. Some foreigners may be put off by the seedier aspects of Sin City (the other name for Pattaya), but others will fall in love with the place.
