Visas for Botswana
Any country that does not have an agreement with the Botswana government will need to have a visa before they arrive. If there is a Botswana consulate of embassy in their country, they should make the application there. Otherwise, it is relatively easy to pick up a visa form one of the other countries in Southern Africa. So for example, if people are travelling around Africa, they can get the visa from somewhere like South Africa.
If visitors wish to stay in the country for more than 90 days in a 12-month period, they will need to apply for a visa before they arrive. This will need to be done in a Botswana consulate or embassy - it is not possible to apply for any visa from inside the country. It is sometimes possible for people who wish to extend their visa to get an extension at the Chief Immigration Office in Gaborone.
It is not permissible for any tourists to Botswana to engage in any type of work during their stay. This is something that the government take seriously, and getting caught doing work can lead to serious consequences. If people do want to do any type of work, they will need to apply for a special visa before they arrive.
In order to enter the country it is also important to have a passport that is valid for at least six months. If people are using a document other than a valid passport (for example and emergency passport) - they will need a visa before they arrive.
