Gaborone Game Reserve
Gaborone Game Reserve is located on the outskirts of the city. This is one of the smaller game reserves in Botswana, but there are plenty of animals to see here including monkeys, zebras, wild boar, and plenty of different species of bird. It is open from 06:30 until 18:30, and is located to the east of Gaborone on Limpopo Drive.
Kgale Hill is a good option if you are looking for some stunning views of the nearby scenery. There is also wildlife in the area, and visitors are likely to come across these during their ascent - just be cautious around the gibbons. Kgale Hill is 100 metres above sea level and the ascent is reasonable and worth the effort.
Otse Village is a few kilometres outside of Gaborone, and it offers a great opportunity to investigate the local rural culture. The nearby cliffs are home to vultures, and this is the best place in the country to admire this amazing bird. The local villagers are afraid to climb these hills, and there are some great stories that explain this fear.
Gaborone offers the best shopping opportunities in the whole of Botswana. There are a number of excellent department stores to choose from, and these are similar to what you would find in any western city. There are also plenty of small stores and boutiques in the city, so overall this is a great place to go shopping.
Visit the Cinema
Sometimes the heat can get a bit much during the day and a good escape from this is to go to an air-conditioned cinema. The latest movies are available, and these cinemas offer a high-class cinematic experience for a reasonable price.
Gaborone is said to be the city that offers the second best dining experience in the whole of Africa (number one is Johannesburg). Every type of international cuisine can be found in the city, and there are eating establishments to suit every budget.
Spend a Night on the Town
There are some good nightlife options in Gaborone including bars, clubs, and a lively music scene.
Letlhafula is the most important festival that takes place in Gaborone; it is a celebration of the harvest. It is usually held on the last Saturday in May. There is plenty of good food to eat as well as music and other activities to celebrate the occasion. Many people visit Gaborone to celebrate this event, so it might be better to book a hotel in advance.
